Wild to Wise: An Indigenous Woman's Guide to Wild Grace, Soft Strength & Your Sacred Self is a memoir and a guide, written by a Cree woman from Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, for Indigenous women ready to lead their own lives.
Geraldine Carriere was taken from her family as a child and placed in foster care. She grew up with racism, with loss, and with the long work of finding her way back to her culture. She became a singer, a speaker, a coach and an entrepreneur. This book is what she learned on the way, told plainly and offered to every woman walking a similar road.
Ten chapters move from pride and presence through influence, image, initiative, resourcefulness, productivity and entrepreneurship, to women's bodies and legacy. Each one pairs a piece of Geraldine's story with teachings on identity, leadership and self-development. Cree spirituality, the Medicine Wheel and matriarchal teachings sit alongside contemporary psychology and business thinking. Reflection questions, poems and a guided meditation give the reader somewhere to put what she has read.
This is not a book about surviving. It is a book about what comes after: reclaiming your voice, your body, your money, your time and your place at the table, and then holding the door for the women behind you.
